I had one of those on my Vette for years. I used to put a couple old
bedsheets over the car and then the cover on top. I was more worried about
scratching the paint. I used that procedure for about 7 years.
Have a different cover now.

seems like the nylon ones let through dust- the one i have when i take it off
looks like i never had a cover on the car!!!
for over-spray it would probably work to protect your car
