Tim,
I started with a 8.5:1 454 as well. Since the bottom end was fresh I went with a set 3964290 closed chamber heads to bump up the compression. Added a Comp Cams Nostalgia Plus 11-670-4 cam, a 750 Mighty Demon and a DUI distributor. Sounds great, runs like a bat out of hell when I wanty but also great for a cruise. Mine is paired with a 2600 stall converter and 3.73 gears. Hey everyone, Well for the last few months my Chevelle has been backfiring and running like crap. I finally figured out what the deal was yesterday....The exhaust valve on #8 is burnt. The motor is old and tired. So I'm going to rebuild it. So any idea's for engine combo's? I don't have a bunch of money to spend on this but I would like to bump up the performance of it. Right now it's a really stock 454, 8:1 compression. I'm thinking about bumping up the compression to 9:1, adding a cam, and if I can afford them, maybe some aluminum heads. I think that would really waken up this motor. But basically this is a street car that's cruised 99.9% of the time. So I want the drive-ability. Anybody else care to chime in? Thanks! -Tim Finding the best videos just got easier. Try the NEW Truveo.com.
