Not a Mopar man ,but seems to me if you wanted to ditch the points and the rest 
of the distributor is good maybe you should consider an MSD box or similar 
unit.  Would be a good way to eliminate the points and get a hotter spark all 
in one shot.  That's what I did on my "69" Chevelle and haven't regretted it 
yet.

If all he wants to do is get rid of the points, why not buy a Mallory Unilite?  
I used one on My El Camino for a few years:
