There are two new postings, both from the northern mountains of
Oaxaca, which tell of indigenous peoples -- Zapotecos, Mixes and
Chinantecos -- joining APPO and moving to assert their autonomy. The
postings are in Spanish and English.

community and regional organizations, citizen men and women from the
communities and municipalites of San Miguel Cajonos, San Francisco

met in the municipality of San Pablo Guelatao de Jua'rez, Oaxaca Me'xico;
with the goal of analyzing and reflecting on the reality in which our
communities are living, and proposing our form of participation in the
Popular Assembly of the Peoples of Oaxaca, We say and we demand . . . To

Oaxaca, the state of the Mexican republic with about 70 per cent of
its inhabitants claiming they belong to one or another indigenous people
(of the 16 that exist there), is convulsed by the stupidity of an
incompetent governor who persists in power despite being generally
repudiated.
The indigenous communities and peoples of Oaxaca have borne centuries
of oppression, not without resorting at various moments of their history
to uprisings to show they were fed up and to make demands. . . . To see

Desde las comunidades serranas de las Sierras norte~as de Oaxaca, el 13

oaxaque~o la voz popular es: "No necesitamos a Ulises para vivir"
Oaxaca, el estado de la Repu'blica mexicana con cerca del 70 por
ciento de habitantes que reivindican su pertenencia a algu'n pueblo
indi'gena (de los 16 que alli' existen), esta' convulsionado por la necedad
de un desgobernante que se aferra al poder, a pesar del repudio
generalizado.
Las comunidades y pueblos indi'genas de Oaxaca han soportado siglos de
opresio'n, no sin recurrir en diversos momentos de su historia a
levantamientos para manifestar sus hartazgos y reivindicaciones. . . .
