Obviously, things have changed, but what exactly has changed is hard to say. What version were you migrating from that you noticed such a significant improvement in migrating to 0.8.12?
I did make some changes to the way the auto-recompilation calculated when to recompile stuff, perhaps that was it - hard to say. 50 second page-loads are the kind of thing I'd hope to hear about as soon as possible, because that's just way to slow.
