Dear friends; After reading about "Endgame" and witnessing it at work in Detroit, I have to say that it is hard to know the right way to go. We have complained, protested, posted bonds, and endless other activities to support the vulnerable community, the way our elders never had support. Any and all analysis is important. Historical context is important, although there is no comparison when one considers the bizarre demands of late capitalism, versus the early industrialism that drew our families here. There are more people to lend support, more technology, and infinitely more solidarity between borders because of the links between families now. We can hold vigils, show solid support for people in these dark days, raise hell, hide out, pray, fight, whatever one believes one's contribution can be. And we can show patience and solidarity with each other, respect each others' analysis, keep asking questions and keep struggling. We can never give up. It is important that we hold each others' efforts, no matter how we disagree, in the light of our best selves. What is a good response today may not be tomorrow because no one is in charge, just a headless, heartless monster. At least that's the way it seems to me here. Maybe some of you know different, but given our best efforts in our truest intentions, we have to keep on. Here we have people coming and going between states and hoping their cases will follow so they are not considered fugitives. We have people in detention who have lived in the US for their whole lives, have no Mexican passports, have no ties to Mexico and would absolutely be Repatriados when they get there. But they will return and their children will sponsor them, so the future generations will remember what their parents suffered. And they will remember how we acted with them, for better or worse. All of this will be remembered. How we treat each other will be remembered. Amor y lucha Elena Herrada
