An October 12th (Dia de La Raza) action was one of the resolutions that
came out of the
"Midwest Conference" (Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois & Wisconsin) that we
attended in
Toledo Ohio in the FLOC offices early this year. We are already planning a
"COORDINATED ACTION"
with other groups from Chicago, Los Angeles, N.Y. City and us here in
Detroit. Now we can add
Madison Wisconsin and any other city or groups that may want to SUPPORT &
PARTICIPATE in this action.
WHY SUCH AN ACTION? To increase the political pressure on politicians &
presidential candidates for a
MORATORIUM to STOP "GESTAPO STYLE" ICE RAIDS, deportations, detentions,
abuses and separation
of families. Millions of compassionate people are against this great
INJUSTICE. Even Congressmen
Luis Gutierrez & Sam Farr stated that ICE utilizes "GESTAPO TACTICS"
WHY ON OCTOBER 12th? Because on this date back in 1492 is when the EUROPEAN
INVASION &
Colonization began occupying our continent. Thus, this date is of symbolic
significance and we call it
"DIA DE LA RAZA" We need to keep this dialogue open and iron out the DETAILS
in regards to this action.
Where in the city, what time of the day, etc.
In Solidarity,

Hola a todos!
From Madison, UTI, we would like to support the October 12th, I remember
our brothers and sisters from Michigan initiated a call a while ago.
As we see ICE and DHS do their own election campaign on the issue of mass
deportation or pushing for guess worker agenda, in anyway, we should set the
tone for Mayday 2009 if we effectively lay out loud and clear our demands
for who ever wants our vote or who ever say wanna help us.
I think we all could use the 10 pints of unity and specially the STOP
DEPORTATIONS IMMEDIATELY . Maybe in some areas organizations are more shy
about asking the Democrats to commit before the elections to amnesty,
however, I feel that every body from hone or another political view, we all
are asking our representatives to stop raids until, at least, the
immigration reform. It is a shame that both mayor parties candidates did not
condemn the raids as a hypocritical and cruel actions on behalf of the DHS.
So I propose the
National Day of Action On October 12th "Stop Deportations Now"
Three main demands:
a) we demand Stop all deportations NOW!
b) we demand that presidential candidates endorse it and being more open
and transparent about what are they solutions about immigration.(Mainly
McCain and Obama, but do not forget we do have people like Cintya McKeny who
is already on our side)
c) we announce the 100 days campaign, which is that we demand a solution
in the first 100 days of next president goberment for the more than 12
million of immigrant workers families who are already part of our
communities who they help to build anyway with their work and families.
100% independence on the actions and message for each endorsing
organzation
I porpose that the prior 3 basic demands being taken as a template or
common place to depart from and that any demand can be added or expanded as
each organisations prefer IN THEIR OWN communication or / and literature.
I propose that each city and / or organization lay out their own
activities, some examples:
vigils, forums, panel discussions, rallies in front of DHS, rallies in
front of local Republican or/and democratic parties campaign headquarters,
community delegations to main candidates to demand endorse to stop
deportations, concerts, ....
Act like one body in front of public opinion and against DHS Deportations
I propose that we all do a press conference on Tuesday 30th in each city
so we can all say that this is a coordinated national action
I suggest a national conference call for next Thursday 11th at 5pm central
time (6pm NYC, 3pm in LA) 1-219-509-8111 (East Coast) code 31858
Draft agenda
1. introductions and elections of chair (10 minutes)
2. report (2 minutes max) of different events or proposals for that day
(30 minutes)
3. national coordinated press conference day (20 minutes)
Can .anybody work on a one two paragraph describing the actions so we can
use it in our literature and press communications for that day?
.
Please, let me know if this sounds like a good idea and if somebody
endorse the call to discuss the action....
Un abrazo combativo!
