Dear Friends,
News of the economy has been grim in the last few weeks for America’s giant
financial firms as the federal government steps up to comfort them with a $700
billion consolation package. But working families and individuals in the U.S.
have known increasing financial woes for years without any substantial support
from our political leaders: Rising gas costs, rising food costs, rising
mortgages; lay-offs, under- or unemployment; credit problems associated with
more and more Americans taking out higher-interest loans; access to affordable
health care—these are just some of the recurrent problems facing the majority
of Americans. Yet despite all their talk, the government has not offered any
tangible relief. Where’s our bailout?
Omar Lopez, Green Party candidate for the 4th Congressional District, has spent
more than 40 years organizing on behalf of working people in Chicago and
throughout the country. He has pressed for tenant’s rights in Humboldt Park,
advocated for educational reform in Chicago, and helped rally hundreds of
thousands of men and women around the country for civil rights as part of the
March 10 movement for immigrant rights. As a member of the House of
Representatives, Omar will put forth policies that will put us first:
—Promote an economic stimulus package aimed at working families, including a
federally-supported public works program that will offer long-term viable jobs,
tax reform that benefits working people, and debt forgiveness. By investing in
the American people, the government can stimulate the economy while mitigating
our suffering.
—Revise free trade agreements to include universal standards for taxation,
wages, worker’s rights and the environment. By improving the standards in other
countries, we can keep jobs within the U.S. and prevent massive immigration
from other countries as people leave their homes to find better conditions here.
—Advance immigration and labor policies that protect the rights of all workers.
The current practice of reducing all labor issues to the targeting and
criminalizing of undocumented workers jeopardizes the Constitutional rights and
future stability of citizens as well as non-citizens.
—Support single-payer universal healthcare for all. By guaranteeing healthcare
coverage to every American, we can reduce the burden of medical costs on
working families.
Rather than offering empty slogans for change, Omar Lopez puts forth practical
measures that represent the needs of the American people. His record attests to
his conviction to put the people first. As a Green Party candidate Omar Lopez
does not accept corporate contributions. Your support is needed to help Omar
Lopez continue his work for change as a member of the U.S. Congress. Please
support your future by contributing as generous a financial donation as you
can. Go to omarlopez2008.com/donate today.
