I understand, it can be very hard, and frustrating for awhile.
Bubble, our oldest Chihuahua, she is 13 months old now and it took her a few
months to finally always do a "number 2" on the pad, and the "number 1s" were
hard to train with her too. for a few weeks we had to keep putting her
on the pad and we would just wait and watch her until she would go and if she
wouldn't we would just hold her on our laps and not let her walk around and
play because it seemed the minute she would, she would pee on the
carpet... so it was time consuming and very annoying, but she finally got the
idea. Also, we blocked her into the kitchen part of our apartment when
we would leave her the first few weeks and she got the idea more then since
usually they do not want to sleep, eat, or play in the same place they are
going potty.

confined area while you cannot watch them all the time, this way they will not
want to go potty in their bed, so it will force them to use the pad instead of
a pillow or bed. I think it's best that they smell the pee on the pad too, so
when they do pee on it, this is kind of gross because you would think to throw
it out right away, but if you dab the new pad in it, just a little bit, and
put the new one down, they will smell they went there, letting them know that
is where you do your business, I think it works sometimes. Also, I think it's
good to make a HUGE deal out of it when they do go on the pad, like do a dance
and give treats and rubs and pets. I think Positive Reinforcement works best!
Oh and when they have been sleeping, you should take them to the pad right
when they wake up because more than likely they need to go and they will go on
the pad if you wait until they go before they can take off and play. Good
