what do i do to take care of her. Shelly in Ca.At four weeks old, you will have a very difficult job ahead of you. This pup absolutely should not be away from it's mother! Chi's shouldn't even be taken away at 6 weeks....they need at least 8 weeks due to their size. However, you have her now, so you gotta do the best you can. Determine where the pup is in its maturity, as pups, like human babies, mature at different rates. Can the pup eat or does it need a bottle? Can it defecate on it's own? Assuming the pup can both eat and use the bathroom, the main things you need to do is keep it very warm, a heating pad, warming bottle, light, whatever.(watch for signs of overheating) Next, you may wish to include an old fashioned clock in it's sleeping area...the kind that makes the clicking noise, as it imitates other pups and helps to stimulate the pup. Rub the pup when it is held, to help stimulate it, but unless it is running around and playing on it;s own try not to handle it too often, it can get sore eye. Even if it is now active, limit who and how often it is handled for health reason as their immune sytem can't handle the extra germs or being overly tired. Mostly, if you can afford it, take it to the vet for a check up and follow the recommendations, he will be in a better position, after seeing the pup personally, to see what level it is on.
