(just as us humans!) Any signs of extreme panting, laying still,
ect., are probably signs they are tired and ready to call it quits.
More than likely, you will probably find that you are ready to quit
before they are., but always be on the watch for signs of overheating
or over tiring and make sure to keep fresh water available. There is
no preset guidelines for how much is enough or too much. Like humans,
each chi is different. Some may seem to have endless energy, while
others may want to play for only short periods. Let your chi be the
guide. As for what type of exercises, I find most of them like
running, playing with small squeaky toys they can carry in their
mouth, and mostly, other chis. They are pack animals and do prefer
their own breed but will easily bond with other animals. If it is a
pup, I would be careful about "play biting" humans, as it can lead to
bad habits when they don't realize just how much they actually may
hurt.
I agree with Marsha. My 2-yr old chi, Scamp, is a real bundle of
energy. He'll run and play outside until he poops out. Which is about
20 minutes of hard running & playing with no breaks, or about 2 hours
if we're playing ball and he can rest in between. The only problem
I've seen in him is when he runs too hard, his throat collapses and
he chokes and coughs until he can breathe better. Then he's off &
running again. My chi really loves to "stalk" & chase things -
rabbits, birds, squirrels, pinecones, sticks, balls, etc. Of course,
he can never catch the other animals. They're too fast. But he stalks
them like a cat and then gives chase. It's so funny to watch. I call
him my puppy-cat.
