cathy,appreciate your comments. but guess what, the mom doesn't
want anything to do with the pups since they were weined. we thought we
would let the mom back in the room at night, or even in the afternoon, but we
are finding out for the last 2 days, the mom is growling at the pups when they
go to her and try to suck ... We are keeping one pup. Wonder if
the mother will bond with that pup or continue to growl. anyone have
experience with this.
As a Chi breeder, I have never known of a mom dog NOT to
growl at the weaned pups as they try to nurse. This is not her showing a
dislike toward them, but is simply her motherly instincts trying to teach them
that this is no longer appropriate. You would be better off allowing her to
growl and even "nip" the pups...she will not hurt them, but she will
discipline them, just as we humans dicipline our kids. She is trying to teach
them their proper place.
