k well what if i was to get a 5 lb female to breed> and a 3 lb male>then it should even out? shouldn't it>
i don't want to breed to get 2 lb chi's> but i also don't want to breed to get 8 lb chi's>>
and the most common weight i have been associated with in my area> is to keep a desirable weight in between 3 and 5 lbs.

i have alot of experience with newborn babies> and taking care of them>>
i went through alot of trauma with pets and having babies> and c-sections> stillborns>bottle feeding>giving meds> etc>
so any advice on breeding, that has been succesful 4 u > i would like to know what has worked 4 u>
i've done lots of deliveries of pets giving birth>
but i nvr put the actual pets together to breed on purpose>
and that is mainly all i need help on>
as soon as i get my chi and she is old enough to breed>which> i know she has to b of at least 2 yrs of age b4 her 1st litter>
so it's ok>
nobody needs to give me that advice>

I too am a chi breeder and would be scared to death to breed one that small. If you are realy trying for the small gene (which is kinda silly since chi's, like humans, will come in all sizes) the father should be the smal one, not the mother. I have bred my 4.5 lb chi one time with a 3.5 lb father, but that was stupid on my part. Thankfully, everyone was fine and dandy, but one pup was rather large and vet said if he got any bigger a c-section would be required. Thankfully he didn't get bigger. My advice, don't do it. Make sure the mom is big enough to have a healthy pregancy and keep the dad smaller.Marsha
