Marsha,
Thank you so much for the tips. I can use as many of those as possible. I know that I love her and I want to take the best care of her as I possibly can. I do have another question. Today it has been raining and the temperature is dropping. So I haven't been able to take her out much. So I put some newspaper on the floor so that she could go on there. Is that bad since I am trying to train her? I do not yet have a sweater for her to wear. I haven't been able to find on small enough to fit. I didn't want her to get wet and cold and then wind up sick.
Thanks, Kim

Whenever she squats, shake the can or squirt the water at her and immediately take her to the appropriate place to go potty. It will take patience, and there will be accidents. Best not to have her running around to much just yet. Keep her crated whenever you can't supervise. They will not mess in their crate (if it is smaller enough and if you take her out enough). The crate, if used appropriately, will eventually become her favorite place! The crate should also be used any time you are not home. Chis love small enclosed placed where they feel they can hide. I personally use a small carrier. Now that my chis are older and housebroken, I do not shut the door on it, but that is where you will find them most of the time. Until they are housebroken, a crate or carrier is one of the most necessary puppy supplies you can have for a chi.

How do I start training her to potty outside. She squats so fast that I have no time to catch her before she has gone pee. I don't want to spank her but I am not sure what to do to make her understand that it is bad to pee in the house. I realize that Ihave just gotten her but what can I do to help her not cry when I have to go back to work tomorrow. I put her down and she cries. The only time she does not cry is when I hold her and as much as I want to just hold her all the time I want her to learn that she cannot always be carried. That she needs to get down and play and such. If there is anyone who can give me some advice that would be wonderful.
