I give my chi a bath about every 2 months. Unless he is filthy or something like that. He hates baths but he gets kinda smelly if he does not get his bath. I know about the oils in their skin but Remy has never had a skin problem at all so he will continue getting his baths. Shena.

I wouldn't use baby bath on a chi puppy...may an older one, but not a puppy. As a general rule, chis should not be bathed more than twice a year as a routine and otherwise only when absolutely necessary. Chi coats excrete an oil that protects their naturally dry skin. Bathing gets rid of these oils. I have noticed, however, with my chis, that they love to find the filthiest, dirtiest stuff they can and just ROLL in it. When they do, naturally I have to bathe them. Otherwise, a pet wipe (they look a lot like baby wipes but are specially made for pets) can be used for routine cleaning, but reserve full baths for twice a year routines and as absolutely needed. It is much better for their skin.

Subject: [Chihuahuas] question abd bathing...

I was told that the best thing to wash chihuahua in is baby bath. I was wondering if this true and if so could i use the lavender baby bath? Its in the purple bottle. It smells so good. I love that smell. Twos is only 9 1/2 weeks.
