Allay has it too, It is awful when it happens, We will go for days with nothing then suddenly it happens, not always due to fast drinking, eating or excitement. It just happens.
Allay usually comes to me head and tail down, and I rub her and keep her calm till it passes. I've thought of doing Doggie CPR, hold the mouth close and gently blow into the nostrals, (your mouth has to cover the nose) but it hasn't quite reached that stage yet. I also read in several places that the tracia closes as they breath in so that probably would not work. We have had Jose (8 mos old) for 7 weeks now and he has not done it and hopefully will not. It's hard enough to deal with one having it. Your right, it doesn't happen as often as it did when she was younger, she is 14 mos now. I wish they could outgrow it. Goose honk is a perfect description of the sound, it's nothing at all like a cough, or clogged nose. If you ever are unlucky enough to hear it and see your dog struggle to breath, you will never forget it. I hope it's true that it's not fatal, but I'll admit every time it happens you couldn't tell me that at that moment. Let's hope we never hear it again.
