In case anyone ever has trouble with a dog/pup not
eating from serious illness or a surgery Science Diet A/D is the cat's
meow! (wrong group?) It is a prescription diet that is used under
the direction of a vet and should be thought of as part of the vet's
prescription. Sparky was prescribed by the vet to eat A/D. It's
great stuff. I've posted this, but my Sophie chi was put on it when she
did terribly after her spay. You wouldn't want to substitute something for
this great stuff, because it is packed with what the dog needs to get through
whatever illness or stress it is having. It's supposed to be delicious so
very tempting for a dog but Sophie wouldn't even eat that when she was having
trouble when she went back into the clinic, so her vet showed me how to
use a tongue depressor and dab it on her lips(?) so Sophie would have to lick it
into her mouth. We had to do this all day for a couple of days. If
you were to run out and think your dog still needs it, it's just like a human
prescription, call your vet and see if he/she thinks they should still be on it,
and then run up and get another can or two according to your vet. I went
and got another can after using the initial 3 (I think it was 3). I'm in
another group and a couple of us are getting new puppies, but are fairly
experienced puppy/dog owners. We've been kind of having fun putting
together a what does a new puppy need list and now I'm going to talk to my vet
about having a can of A/D on hand for something that really isn't an emergency
but I worry about everything with these fragile little puppies. Here
is the link for specific info on A/D.
