Hi Connie, Thanks for telling me about your babies!! I am getting into the swing of owning a mini pin, although it is quite different from owning a chi. I am seeing more and more distinctive personality traits of both my little guys. I will tell you a little bit more about my pin. He is about 4-6 years old, red in colour, and his ears are not pinned. One ear flops over to the side sometimes and I think it makes him look really sweet. We have called him Sirius because he raises one eyebrow when you talk to him and with the cocked ear... it just made sense! >From what I have gathered, I am certain that Sirius came from a home that trained him and took reasonably good care of them. however, when he developed diabetes,it is most likely that they just dropped him off somewhere. He was picked up by the SPCA, in terible shape. He was then turned over to a minipin rescue society, and that is where I got him. He is skinny skinny skinny, and we are working really hard to get his weight up to a normal level, but I am doing it slowly, so as not to totally shock his system. Right now, he probably only weighs 9 or 10 pounds. He looks like a chi on stilts! But he is happy, and his diabetes is reasonably well managed at this point. He is on two shots a day, but I think his sugar is a little high still.
He does have some intersting quirks though, he does tug toys, and won't play fetch. He is getting to know the cat and my chi, and although he loves to cuddle them, he isn't quite ready to play with them. I think he will get there though. Right now he sleeps alot, but I think that might be a combination of being not up to par, and being in a new home. Any further tips you have would be very welcome! If he's not trying to get you to play, he sulks and suckles, or has to be touching you at all times - my hubby says I babied him to much as a puppy - but I did the exact same things to my chi's(both female though) and they are majorly > independant, except at night, they are on my lap for a few hours.really no tips for ya - just wanted to share the joys of min pins with ya- I've had two now- and I enjoy the quirkyness - he makes me laugh - oh one thing though - watch how much you feed them carefully - they tend to get very heavy and they are obsessed with food (any kind) mine will get up on the chairs and get on the kitchen table if I turn my head for a second.- but he IS as my daycare kids now call him - A BONEHEAD !!
