IT is a buyers market. Everything depends on the law of supply and demand.
Unfortunately, there isn't as much a demand for AKC these days. But I am like
you, for me, AKC is the only real way to go. However, I have two CKC that I have
not yet bred, but do plan too, in order to meet the demand/desire for CKC that
is rising.

breeders/rescuers - registries
Yep!
I've never looked at the Continental Kennel
Club registry to mean 'anything' to me!!! I've been brought up in the
days that the dog is either AKC registered or it's not. There wasnt anything
else.
So now all the breeders switching to APRI - has me leary.
But maybe it's my lack of knowledge so is why I'm asking.
I've been
told to -it's the cost of AKC chasing breeders away. I dont feel the
fee's are out of line though.......??

Sandi, that's the same
thing that I was finding when I was looking for a puppy. They told me
they used CKC or APRI because it's cheaper to register with them than it
is to register with AKC.
Kat This has been so interesting
that I looked that up. Here is the AKC litter registration
fee: A litter fee is comprised of two parts: a
processing fee of $25.00 plus a puppy fee of $2.00 per live puppy
(multiply the total number of live puppies by $2.00).That is not a lot of money.
Continental
Kennel Club (ckc) is free it appears for puppies but look at
this:
2.Dogs over 6 months of age
which have no previous Registration history may be registered by providing
2 witness signatures attesting to the purebred status of the dog along
with 3 photos (front, left and right) of the dog to confirm it is of
proper breed type as defined by our current CKC Registration Rules and Regulations.Canine Registration Applications are available in PDF format from our web site.
