Barley does not need a diet. He is a good healthy weight. He is the cobbly type...which is standard, but I prefer the skinnier ones myself, but I quess I can't complain because he DOES meet standard in shape, lol. But it isn't an over weight problem. I quess he just gained the weight due to a better feeding here. I am not sure his breeder is the best ever was. She is a realy nice person and all, but I wouldn't recommend her for someone wanting a quality chi. Just too many things...can't realy put my finger on it.
The chihuahua weight chart is one of many quidlines used to help predict the mature adult weight of a chihuahua pup. Used alone, it is not all that accurate, but used in conjuction with other things, such as the size of the parents/grandparents, the size of other pups of those parents, ect, it can help in questimating the expected adult weight of a chi. You can find this chart simply by googling chihuahua weight chart. IT gives the weight at a certain age, then uses that to determine the expected adult weight. I do use it, but only in conjunction with other things like those mentioned. Maybe he will still stay small, but I am not real hopeful. In order to breed to Ginger, he will need to get no bigger than 4 1/2 pounds.....this is taking into consideration the size of his parents as well. Did the vet check for maybe a underline problem to the fast weight gain like a on-set of a thyroid disease. I am not sure I understand the chart you mentioned does it mean if a pup weighs a certain amount at a certain age then he/she will weigh so much at adulthood. > Jaye > > ----- Original Message ---- > From: marsha Taylor <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [email protected] > Sent: Wednesday, June 7, 2006 9:00:01 PM > Subject: [Chihuahuas] disappointed > > > > Well, a bit disappointed in Barley's puppy check yesterday. He went to the vet for a well puppy check and for his last set of puppy shots. When I got him three weeks ago, he was at 1 pound, 5 oz...thus charting between 3 1/2 to 4 pounds grown. NOW, he weighs 3 pound 5 oz (a 2 pound gain in 3 weeks!!) and is charting at 6 pounds!!! > > Now, I know that the weight chart is not precise, but it can be a pretty good guideline. If he gets anywhere near this big, then he certainly can not be bred to Ginger. I was not sure that I would ever be able to breed him anyways because I am not sure how good quality he is gonna turn out to be, but if he gets this big, then there is no doubt he wont be bred. > > I can't figure out for the life of me how he managed to put on that much weight that fast, but geeeee! Soooo, I am disappointed. I have been disappointed in him as a potential stud every since I got him, but remain happy with the effect he had on Ginger. But still, I need an appropriate stud!!! sighhhhhh. > > Otherwise, his health check was well. > > > Marsha > ------------------------ Yahoo!
