>is he use to a collar or halter yet? If not, you need to start there. Let him get use to the halter (prefered) or collar first before you ad the leash to it. Then let him run around inside the house with the leash on...supervised of course. Play with him, give him praise, treats, ect when you are introducing the leash to help him associate the leash with good stuff. Maybe even a special type of treat that he ONLY getds while he is getting the leash put on.
Non of my chis wear collars/halters or leashes because the area in which we live has allowed me the luxury of training them to walk by my side without having to worry about dangers during the training. Even the youngest on mine, Barley, who is nearly 4 months old, can go outside with me without any restraint and he will stay withing allowed distance. But again, that is only because I am lucky enough to live in a location where this is feasible. I know most people do not have that kind of luxury. Pepper, on the other hand, as a service animal, needs to be on a leash in public because his ID hanges from his leash (you can't hardly put ID tags on a little chi size collar! lol) It is kinda funny in that the minut that leash goes on, Pepper knows he is in working mode. All playing ceases and he is focused on the job at hand of being my ears and setting a good example for SD's everywhere. :-) Marsha Hi everyone, > > I don't remember our 4 y/o male hating his leash so bad. but our new > guys hates it so much, so much that the neigibors would think I am > doing bad things to him. > > I put the leash on him and he cries, I take him out and let him walk > free with the leash dragging and he cries, I try to take the leash of > him and he cries and you don't wanna know what he does when I actually > try to use the leash. > > I need help.
