I am a newbie. Long Long story short. We rescued a Chi/Pap/? who
we call Whatever. She was 2 months old, 1.6 ounces, skin infection,
bald, (is long haired), had seizures, starving even had swallowed a
feeding tube. Touch and go for a month or so but with hour to hour
feeding a wonderful country Vet she is now 4.5 lbs, 1.5 years old.
Now here is our current problem. She had infected teeth and after a
few weeks of antibiotics the Vet pulled her retained back molars and
also she was spayed. This was two weeks ago. Our other vet was
afraid to operate because of her small size. We live in the boonies
and vets around here are used to BIG critters. Now the crux of this
message. She still was not the happy dog and we took her back to
the Vet. She has Luxating patella in her left rear knee. The vet
wants us to put her on a diet because of her tiny bones she should
only weigh 3lbs. He does not want to operate since she is in the
early stages. I have read and read about luxating patella and
finally, thank you God, I found your message. Do you think we could
start Whatever on a regime of (1/4) tablet of glucomine 500
mg/chondroitin 400mg/MSM 166 mg? I know if I asked the vet he
probably wouldn't be able to answer me, nothing against the vet but
we are country here. He did recommend 1/4 of a baby aspirin to help
with the pain but if we could help with the luxating patella that
would be wonderful.
We have her on a diet of lean food and giving her 1/2 cup a day and
not a lot of snacks. My husband, who was NOT a dog person, has
adopted Whatever and I swear he gives her kisses more than he gives
them to me. Anyway she just looks at him and he would share
anything with her. This is now a no-no who he gets THE look!
We are very gun shy with her since last month we lost our Chinese
crested inside of three days. Peanut woke up very sick took her
immediately to the vet, got medicine but she still died. She was l2
years old.
We also have a rescued Affenpinscher, and our two outside guard and
herd dogs are a rescued Great Pyr and an Aussie. Everybody
including four cats are fixed, we are not in the breeding business.
I thank you so much for your help or anyone else who has tried this
treatment on their chi.
