[Chihuahuas] In heat? How do you know?

Hi everyone.  It is me again.  I am not sure but I think that Gordie is in heat.  Can someone tell me the symptoms?  And how long they last?   I mean, she has been licking a LOT, and I think that I have seen a couple spots of "bloodish" color, but that is hard to tell because it is a pink blanket... Also, she has been acting "pms'y" today.    However, my MIL has a male dog and it wasn't trying to get at her, so I really am not sure... Please help...
