mmmm, you sure you are a chi lover??? lol. They are housedogs and should not be left outside at any temperature, they bark because they have a whole lot to say (lol) and they are suppose to be on the furniture...how else are they gonna cuddle with us? Their vet bills shouldn't be all that much more than any other breed. Yea, they have special health conditions they are prone to, but every breed is prone to something. We just focus on what a chi is prone to because we are chi lovers. We don't have to crop their tails or ears or tack their eyes, or anything like you gotta do with some breeds. I think in the end, there are not MORE health issues, just DIFFERENT health issues. They not only require constant attention, they deserve constant attention. Otherwise, why have them? I think the "shaking" is cute, lol. Generally, they are a bit more difficult to housebreak than some breeds, but in the end, it is all very much worth it.

Should this person get a chi.? That is something you have to decide for yourself. A chi is not for everyone. A chi is for a person who does have a lot of time to devote (because they do want your attention) is prepared to keep a pet inside, is prepared to commit long term.....YEARS ...as in 15 to 20 on average. A chi is for someone who does not want a dog to rough and tumble with. Someone who does not have young children (or at least someone who is willing and able to be EXTRA careful) and for someone who is willing to research all about chis first.  Rather a chi is right for a person is a persona decision that only that person can make. It is more than just a "cute little dog"

I do want to give an example of why you need to research a lot first.. Every since I was a little kid, I have wanted a St. Bernard. A quy I knew had two and I fell in love with the breed. For 20 years I swore one day I would have a SB. Well, last summer, some one gave my son a AKC SB. At first I was as overjoyed as my son. He loved the idea of a big dog he could wrestle. THEN......the food bill started getting out of hand. You can feed 20 chis on what you can feed one SB!!! lol. Then I found the slobber wasn't all it was cut up to be, lol. A lot of different things quickly showed me that a SB was NOT for me. After a month, we gave him back. I now have that desire for a SB out of my system. NOWWWWWW if only I can find someone willing to give me a cow so I can get that out of my system, lol

Subject: {SPAMFILTER} [Chihuahuas] Re: Wanting a chihuahua but need some advice

chihuahua are fun little dogs.

And they do like to bark all the time and are fairly noisey.
chihuahuas have a bad temper and don't like other dogs and people in
general. they run up vet bills like a champ and usually take a year+
to house train. You can't leave them out in the yard if its under 40
and forget about leaving them out at night they bark all night. You
have to walk them 3 times per week and they require constant
attention. If you going to get a new chihuahu get a big sturdy one
not a tea cup. Since they are very hard headed be ready to put up
with lots of crap for the first year. they do settle down after 2
years but still bark at everything and shake. Also they will be on
your furniture, they don't stay on the floor. so be ready.
