Gosh! Dont scare pepole about Chis. In my opinion, I have to agree on
some stuff, not all. Chis are not spawns of hell when it comes to
temper. My two Chis are the most loving dogs ever! During all my life,
my family has had a boxer, an alaskan m. , a German shepherd and atm I
have yellow Lab. Let me tell you the things I can see as a bonus about
Chihuahuas.
1.- The size. If you like to play with your dogs ( ball, fetch, etc,
)the scratches and bruises are almost non existing when I compare it
with playing with my 32 Kg lab.
2.- They eat a lot less ($$$$$$$)
3.- The poo and pee a lot less!!
4.- In my experience, my Chis love guests! Not all Chihuahuas are that
jealous or freaky when others come near.
5.-They are easy to bath and groom.
6.- If the weather is nice ( avoid low temperatures or rain)they can
stay outdoors. My girls sleep in a balcony next to my bedroom where
they can bark at night. They love to see people and cats and bark the
hell out!
7.- The dress accesory Chihuahua is not the typical Chi. They are real
dogs, they will bite a meaty bone, drool, bark and fetch. Mine like to
run all over the backyard and play tag with each other.
8.- They like attention, and they will fight for it.
9.- They can be good indoor dogs, but dont deny them the pleasure of
help you dig a little bit as you plant a bush.
10.- In my opinion, Chihuahuas are a little like any other dog, but I
wouldnt put them in a house with young kids. They are a bit delicate
when it comes to handling , but they will give you happy times when
you play with them.
If you are a responsible person who likes to spend a lot of time with
dogs, who wouldnt mind visiting the Vet every now and then for in
between vaccines visits, you will like the Chihuahuas. I know I do!
PS. The myth that Chis are difficult to train is just that, a myth.
They are very smart and they get to know you and what you expect from
them.
Good luck with your pick!

should not be left outside at any temperature, they bark because they
have a whole lot to say (lol) and they are suppose to be on the
furniture...how else are they gonna cuddle with us? Their vet bills
shouldn't be all that much more than any other breed. Yea, they have
special health conditions they are prone to, but every breed is prone
to something. We just focus on what a chi is prone to because we are
chi lovers. We don't have to crop their tails or ears or tack their
eyes, or anything like you gotta do with some breeds. I think in the
end, there are not MORE health issues, just DIFFERENT health issues.
They not only require constant attention, they deserve constant
attention. Otherwise, why have them? I think the "shaking" is cute,
lol. Generally, they are a bit more difficult to housebreak than some
breeds, but in the end, it is all very much worth it.

> Should this person get a chi.? That is something you have to decide
for yourself. A chi is not for everyone. A chi is for a person who
does have a lot of time to devote (because they do want your
attention) is prepared to keep a pet inside, is prepared to commit
long term.....YEARS ...as in 15 to 20 on average. A chi is for someone
who does not want a dog to rough and tumble with. Someone who does not
have young children (or at least someone who is willing and able to be
EXTRA careful) and for someone who is willing to research all about
chis first. Rather a chi is right for a person is a persona decision
that only that person can make. It is more than just a "cute little dog"
>
> I do want to give an example of why you need to research a lot
first.. Every since I was a little kid, I have wanted a St. Bernard. A
quy I knew had two and I fell in love with the breed. For 20 years I
swore one day I would have a SB. Well, last summer, some one gave my
son a AKC SB. At first I was as overjoyed as my son. He loved the idea
of a big dog he could wrestle. THEN......the food bill started getting
out of hand. You can feed 20 chis on what you can feed one SB!!! lol.
Then I found the slobber wasn't all it was cut up to be, lol. A lot of
different things quickly showed me that a SB was NOT for me. After a
month, we gave him back. I now have that desire for a SB out of my
system. NOWWWWWW if only I can find someone willing to give me a cow
so I can get that out of my system, lol
