some people should NEVER start breeding.  What is so outstanding that more dogs need to be created that someday will face being Put To Sleep at a shelter??????  Aren't there enough dogs and animals dying every day... but of course.. it would NEVER happen to anything anyone bred personally right.

I'd consider the whole breeding issue again..... WHY DO YOU DO IT.. bottom line is MONEY in my opinion or STUPIDITY ties as a close second!

Not a stupid question at all. At least not as stupid as asking others where your own website is, lol. Seriously, if you are new to breeding, there is absolutely nothing stupid or unusual about not being able to tell for sure at 6 weeks. Most of the time, they are showing by this time, but not always.

First, I would wait at least another week before I bothered to go to the vet. No sense paying a lot of money when you still have some time. Second, yes, staying swollen is one indication of possible pregnancy.

I want to share the same website with you that I share with all new breeders who want generalized answers. I think it is one of the best websites to get the basics.  www.debbiejensen.com

There is a link on this site that shows you how to palpitate to see if you can feel anything. There are also other signs to look for.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask anyone on the group. Also, there is a great yahoo group of chi breeders that has excellent advice to offer.. Sometimes they can get a bit harsh if they feel your breeding is not up to their standards, but you could still listen in to what others have to say and will learn a lot. That site is the  chipregnancy yahoo group.

Finally, there is a smaller group that has breeders that can offer excellent advice and you will not get the hassle from them that you may get on the larger group. However, I would have to check with the group owner before posting that group, as she is particular about making sure no one joins who wants to fuss.

Feel free to ask questions! We all gotta start somewhere!

Marsha

Marsha,
Ok, here is another stupid question......I'm new at this so please forgive me.  I had my female chi bred, almost 6 weeks ago.  My breeder thinks she might be pregnant, but I"m still not for sure.  So if her 'private' area is still swollen, b/c hers' is, is that a sign that she is preg?  I would like for her to be, but I'm tired of the guessing  game?   I'm seriously thinking of taking her to the vet on Monday to get the answer to my question, it is driving me crazy.!!!!!!!!!!!   Unless you can tell me............. Thanks for any help.  Melody

no need to worry. Well, your a guy, maybe you need to worry about her PMS? lol, jk. She is fine as far as swelling goes. It will go away as the heat cycle ends unless she is pregnant.

Subject: [Chihuahuas] Concerned Father

My little Pepper just went into her first heat cycle and I am jus
wondering how long I can expect this to last? I have read up to 3 weeks
and if that is so then she nearing that mark. I am concerned though
given the fact that her "female parts" are more swollen then they have
been the prior 2 weeks. Is this normal or do I have reason to be
concerned?

Thanks
Don
