There are pros and cons to every breed. You are doing the right thing by researching and asking questions before getting a chi! :-) Chihuahuas have long life spans, so if you decide to get one, you are looking at a possible 15 to 20 year commitment. (maybe more, maybe less)
They are fragile, but they are not a china doll, lol. It is very possible that one died after hitting it's head on a cornor of a tissue box, especially if it hit in the molara. Chihuahuas often have soft spots on their heads just like a baby. Sometimes they grow together, some times they do not. If you are worried about fragility, look for a larger chi as the smaller ones are more fragil and more prone to health problems than the larger ones. 5 to 7 pounds would probably be a good size for you to have. Some pros: They are generally easy to care for as far as day to day care. They are happy in smaller areas like apartments where bigger dogs may not be. They are very loyal. They don't eat much, lol. You can take them with you easier, Some cons: They are barkers, they are notorioulsy more difficult to housebreak, they want your constant attention; they tend to be "one person pets" as opposed to family pets; Special health probs: knees, heart, low blood sugar (all breeds have some health probs that are frequent in that breed!) Natually these are just gernalizations, as all chis are different. Just keep asking questions and researching and talking to a lot of different people. Then, only you can decide if a chihuahua is right for you! Good luck!
