Not that it matters, but the actual legal definition of Libel
calls for a "reckless disregard for the truth". It doesn't matter if the
person knows for sure, just that the person was reckless (not careful) with what
the truth is. It must be made for the purpose of defaming (harming the
reputation) of someone, as opposed to simply making a mistake with no intention
behind it.
Libel is the written word. Slander is the spoken word. Thus
when it comes to yahoo groups, it would be Slander since it is written rather
than spoken.
Now see there, I do know a little about the law after 3 years
of law school, lol. Barron's law dictionary gives a LONG definition of this
because it is often misunderstood.
