Ok, I will make this short and sweet, but I need some opinion.
My SD chi Pepper has a place that has me very worried. Earlier today Pepper fell
2 different times for no apparent reason. He seemed like his leg just gave out,
but he got right back up and did not act like it bothered him at all. Later, my
mom pointed out that Pepper's butt area (real near the anus) looked swollen on
one side. I could barely notice it. Within a few hours, it was swollen pretty
bad.
Within another couple of hours, it got what looked like a boil
or something on it. My first thought was that it was an anal gland infection. I
have never seen an anal gland infection, so not really sure what it would look
like, but that was my first thought.
We were at Wal-Mart and it was getting bigger and bigger. We
came home and was gonna see if we could put a needle in it and drain it. While
we were getting the stuff together, he burst it himself. Lots of blood and
infection...really dark..almost black. The boil part has gone down some but not
completely. The swelling remains. his whole leg is red. There is still quiet a
bit of stuff in it, but we stopped bothering it for fear of hurting him or
making it worse.
He already has an appointment for Tuesday. I will call Monday
to see if they can see him then. Nearest 24 hour place is over an hour away. The
vet I have used for 0 years has recently left, so I have no one I can call in
now. The vet for Tuesday is a new vet the first time he will go
there.
I am worried...anyone have any idea what it could be and any
opinions of if I should get to a vet asap or wait and see how it is looking
tomorrow?
Pepper is a service Dog, so his health is extremely important.
He is 9 years old. While he seems like he is having some discomfort, he does not
appear in sever pain and his personality seems ok. He feels like he may be
running a temp, but I haven't checked yet...will do so shortly.
