This is a new one for me. Never heard of Legg Perthes. Of course I am familiar with Luxated Patella's but have never had the experience personally. I would suggest that you get the advice of at least two different vets, if they agree, then give great weight to it. If they disagree, see another vet. In the end, listen to your heart and instincts. Best of luck to you...will send up prayers.

Subject: [Chihuahuas] MY HONEY MAY HAVE LEGG PERTHES DISEASE AS WELL AS LUXATED PATELLA

Thanks for the responses, we went to the vet today and they took xrays,
now the vet sees something called legg perthes disease as known as
Aseptic or Avascular Necrosis of the Femoral Head. They are sending
the xrays to a radiologist to get a second opinion. Now this is really
starting to scare me! If so, she will have two procedures done on her
leg, her luxated patella and this one where I hear they cut off the hip
joint! Has anyone had experience with this surgery??? I hear the
recovery time can be up to a year on this one! This is really hard,
she is only 1.5 yrs old! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
