I mix amonia w/ water in a spray bottle to sanitize the tray in Minnie's
crate. I haven't had to use it on the carpet since she was a little
puppy.

It's soo nice to know we're not the only ones, lol. This seems like
a problem alot of owners have. Hopefully as time goes, they'll stop.
It's not like it's a big deal b/c their mess is so small, but if it
was a st. bernard it would be a big deal.. That's the way I try to
look at it. If I don't have her going where she's supposed to, this
is going to be a long battle.
What do you guys use to sanitize after you clean up the mess? Right
now I have arm&hammer pet de-odorizer. It works, but everytime
Mercedes goes near it, she sneezes... So I'm looking for something a
little less harsh I guess...

I thought I had hit the jackpot when I got my 7 wk old Chi, Nina.
I
had her going to potty in a litter box with wee wee pads...both
tee
teeing and poo pooing... by the time she was 9 wks old all by
herself. Then a couple of days ago she started poo pooing on the
carpet next to the wall behind an end table. She still goes to
tee
tee in the litter pan, and I give her a treat anytime she does
so.
I did this when she was poo pooing in the pan, too. I decided to
set a litter pan with wee wee pad where she had been going on the
carpet to see if she'd go in it, and the little snot poo pooed
beside it! I'm starting to think like some of the rest of
you....it's an attention getter. Like Nina needs any more
attention. She already spends 90% of her day time hours in
someone's lap...lol I had read somewhere that scolding Chis
doesn't
really help, and to make sure when they do the right thing to
highly
praise them. Do any of you have any input on that? Since Nina is
just going on ten weeks old, I want to train her the best way
possible, and I don't want to do anything that would be
detrimental
to her mentally. OMG.....you'd think I was dealing with a child
the
way I'm talking....lol Oh well, my husband referred to her as a
rotten puppy earlier today, and I told him real quick she was a
baby.....lol

Well, Ava isn't doing so well with the housetraining after all.
(Ava is my
longhair, 2 yr old Chi, adopted 1 month ago).
I was wondering if anyone had any advice for us.
Here's the situation:
I feed her in the morning before work - 8:15am- then take her
potty. She
goes.
I come home on my lunchbreak (no accidents) at 11:45 am- take
her
potty. She
goes.
I get home from work about 5:30 (no accidents) - take her potty.
She goes.
THEN the trouble begins. When I'm home, when my back is turned,
when I'm in
the other room - she will go on the floor. She's so quick I've
only caught
her in the act maybe two times total.
So, I tried getting puppy pads and putting those in her favorite
spot on the
carpet. She will go RIGHT BESIDE the puppy pad. Then I catch her
chewing and
playing with the puppy pad (so much for those working! ha!)
I haven't crated her because this is such a weird thing... she
doesn't have
a problem when I'm gone... it's when I'm home. She's such a
wonderful dog!
This is the only thing I'm having problems with.
The only thing I can think of is that she needs to have a set
routine...
maybe the reason she goes outside during the day is because it's
such a set
schedule... she knows when the potty break will be. But at night
when I'm
home there's not a specific set time that I take her out.
Do you think it might be helpful to set a timer while I'm at
home
and take
her outside like clockwork? That's the only thing I can think of.
Thank You for any/all suggestions that you have!!!
