All of my eight chis are rescues. They were rescued over a period of three years. When I first got them all but one looked like skeletons, with ribs and backbone showing. Each was kept seperate until Vet checked before being exposed to the others. Only one had parasites....the rest were just horribly undernourished, keeping in mind that they were rescues, which is probably the reason that they were so malnourished. I fed them twice a day until they were up to normal weight. I have always used ProPlan (little bites for small dogs) mixed with a teaspoon of canned ProPlan. As they get to a more normal weight taper back on the canned food. They won't get fat overnight but with a good diet and lots of love they will be "pefect "before too long. Just have your Vet check them first to put your mind at rest. You will never regret having a chihuahua....or two..they are so special!!!

My housemate talked for days about bringing in two chi puppies and I
told him no so he went behind my back and got permission from my
husband. Last night we got a call at midnight that the guy was bringing
them. I wasn't happy untill they put them in my arms. My housemate
knows what a softie I am and the kids went nuts when they saw them so
it looks like I am the owner/coowner of two.
My consern is that they are SO skinny. Is it normal for them to have
every rib and spine sticking out? One is 1.5 years old and the other is
7 months. They are both this skinny. I have no experience with chi dogs
nor was I given the oppertunity to do research into the breed. I have
papers from a local vet saying they were healthy. I just can't imagine
something so skinny being perfectly healthy. I don't know if they were
ever wormed. I am going to call the vet tomorrow. The little one isn't
even a pound at it's last check up.
They are both active, adorable and very loving. They fall asleep in
your arms and just want to be held. They will be very spoiled. One is a
brown short haired and the other is a black and white long hair.
