When I had my boy dogs neutered they did not have to keep them over night. We
took them in early in the morning and picked them up by closing time. They
offered to keep them over night but we said we would rather them be at home
with us. It was different when the girls were spayed, but then again a
different vet spayed the girls.

I had my pomeranian spayed about 2 years ago. He had the surgery done
during the morning and I picked him up late in the afternoon.
I told the vet that nobody would be watching him during the night at
the hospital and at home if anything out of the ordinary would happen
I would be happy to call the emergency line.
Talk to your vet and insist that you would like to take your baby home
for the night and that you will watch over him.
I would insist on that and if the vet says no look for another vet
that would accommodate my needs. (in my case they had the surgery done
during the morning)
That's my personal opinion ...
