Was the Wal-Mart trip recent? If so, it surprises me. Wal-Mart recently settled
a ADA suit brought by the department of Justice as a result of numerous
complaints of ADA violations re service animals. To many SD's were being
refused admittance to Wal-Mart. Anyways, Wal-Mart settled the suit about 4
months ago and part of the settlement was a lot of money in fines and the
requirement that they allow SD's and train their employees on SD access rights.
The problem from Wal-Mart's perspective is that they do not feel they can
distinguish between SD's and pets, therefore, Wal-Mart has issued an order to
all of it's stores that they do not questions ANY dog, for fear it could be an
SD. I know many people who work at Wal-Mart's and they have received those
orders.

I use to have all kinds of problems with our Wal-Mart's and my SD, and still
occasional have a problem when there is a new door greeter, but for the most
part, everyone knows Pepper now and don't bother me, but Wal-Mart does have a
history of a strict no dog policy.

The only problem we had was at Wallmart's, He was in my arms, not touching
anything. It was not a Super Wallmart. It was in Indiana, we were traveling and
I explained we could not leave him in the car as it was too hot and they told
me that I could not take the dog in the store, to leave one of my kids out with
it. I left the store and went to Meijer's down the road, and they never
mentioned not bringing the dog in, just how cute he was. He was just over 2
pounds at the time. It is OK though, as Wallmart's is usually better, it was
probably the employee. (If there were no other options I would have spoken with
the manager.) Due to my dogs size and the fact we used to travel a lot. I do
have to say he has been in some nice restaurants, inside my coat or purse and
we never told anyone. He never barked, would rest and take a nibble when
offered. They are great traveling companions. Karen
