Try to walk him on cement walks if you can, they
tend to keep the nails short. My new female is
very agreeable to nail cutting. I hold the dog
and hold out her paw, my son cuts the nails when
he visits. We never cut short so it is done a bit
more frequently than if cut by a groomer. We use a
clippers designed for the dog's size. This is only
the second of five dogs in the last 16 years that
cooperated with nail trimming. I will never need
help trimming the hair on her feet or her nails. I
frankly look forward to the peace of doing it
myself and not worrying about groomers and how
they groom (though I will leave the baths to my
vet's groomer).

I understand the rabies shot business, there's
next to nothing that can be done in this area
(Northern Virginia) without rabies or kennel cough
protection. It's the new way.

I don't know about the trachea problem. My
assumption is that anything as small as our dogs
must be treated kindly and gingerly. The reason I
am happier doing this pet's nails is because I
always worried that I was going to have a pup
returned to me by the groomers with a displaced
hip or knee.
