Hi Jessica
My chi x papillon, 16 months old, has a luxating patella with one of her rear
legs. I did not get alot of advice from my vet. It is a waiting game to see if
the condition gets worse and if it does she will need surgery. I have found
this out by reading up on the condition. I also wonder when arthritis will set
in and also if this condition will shorten her life. I want to talk to as many
people as possible who have experienced this condition with their dogs. It
helps to share information . You are welcome to e-mail me.

Hi Group,
I have a 2yr old rescue chi that I got about a month ago. The rescue
group told me he was severely crippled in his back legs but it
hardly keeps him from doing anything.
So I had him at the vet for his 1st checkup a couple weeks ago and
after examining his legs she said it was a luxating patella injury
that has now permanently placed his kneecaps over to the side, as
well as pulled all the muscle over with it. She said the problem
could have been fixed when he was younger but now its most likely
not possible. She didn't have a whole lot of suggestions except to
give him glucosamine to help with the bad arthritis he will get when
hes older.
Any other suggestions???? Anyone have a dog like this? Just curious
as to when I should expect the arthritis to bother him....
Right now he is a very healthy active boy. The knees don't seem to
bother him at all. The only thing he has trouble with is jumping up,
pushing off his back legs.
