Hi Jessica

My pom, who is ten years old now had surgery when she was about 5 for
a luxating patella. She had it in both back legs. I let them go
ahead with the surgery for the one that was the worse, by that time
she was already limping. She has artheritis in that leg and walks
with a slight limp still. I decided against doing it on the other
leg as it didnt seem to do any good for her and she still has pain.
It has not interfered with her quality of life in anyway, except she
gets metacam as needed for pain when she has a bad day which is
really only about once every three months. I can always tell when
she is in pain because she shakes. Other than that she has lived a
long happy life so far and she is still in great health. Hope this
helps you a little, feel free to email me if you have any questions.

of her rear legs. I did not get alot of advice from my vet. It is a
waiting game to see if the condition gets worse and if it does she
will need surgery. I have found this out by reading up on the
condition. I also wonder when arthritis will set in and also if this
condition will shorten her life. I want to talk to as many people as
possible who have experienced this condition with their dogs. It
helps to share information . You are welcome to e-mail me.
