Marsha - I was referring to the two American organizations, you were right.
thanks for the explaination. The puppy I just bought is CKC (oh - it is
Continental). The chi I had for nine years (and someone stole) was AKC and I
had never really paid much attention to the differences. Mine are strictly
pets, so I guess it doesn't matter much to me either way but I was curious so
thanks again.

For the most part, AKC is a much more respected organization than the CKC. BUT
remember, CKC depends on where you are. Here in the US, it stands for Canine
(or continental?) But, if you live in Canada, their AKC equivalent is the
Canadian Kennel Club, hence, also CKC, which is just as good as AKC.
That said, assuming you mean the two American organizations, the AKC is
considered to be more legitimate because they have stricter requirements for
registration...both parents and all previous generations must have been AKC, a
sir siring more than so many litters a year or in a lifetime must be DNA'd,
ect. Where as, with the CKC, all you really have to do is present pictures and
a sworn statement that the dog is pure bred and you can register it. They will
also register hybrid breeds such as the lapadoodles, ect......AKC will not.
At the same time, take into consideration that there really is as much chance
for fraud with AKC as their is CKC. I can take a chi that I KNOW has a poodle
in his background and swear it is pure chi and show pics that it looks like a
chi, and the CKC will register it...the AKC will not. However, at the same
time, I can take a chi that had an AKC mom that got tied by another breed, and
can tell the AKC that my AKC sir was the daddy...even when he is not....unless
DNA is required (due to number of litters sired) the AKC will assume I am
telling the truth and will register the pups....

Subject: [Chihuahuas] AKC vs. CKC - difference?
Hello everyone -
What is the difference between AKC and CKC? I know what the initials stand
for, that is not what I am asking. I would like to know if one is a more
respected organization or more desirable when you purchase a puppy - that
kind
of thing.
Thank you!
