Wow, those videos are devastating.   I don't see how people who work in 
shelters can bear 
it.   Although ... my own sister has been doing this for 30+ years in her spare 
time while 
holding full-time jobs as well.  To this day, at age 61, she still heads over 
to Petco on 
Saturdays to find homes for shelter animals.  She's more than a hero, she's a 
saint.   

I'm involved with horses (my daughter rides) and the same thing is happening 
there, 
though not as well publicized.  Every Tom, Dick and Jane thinks it would be 
great fun to 
breed their mare and have a foal.  Meanwhile the "Horse for sale" listings are 
glutted.  
Horses are not cheap nor easy to take care of!  Every year I'm sure 1000s go 
for glue and 
meat.  Horses are dog-like in their ability to bond with and love humans, but I 
doubt 
there's anyone stroking their heads when the ax falls. 

Oh drat, there I go crying again.
