If you have the time, patience its best to leave him on a lead with you as
constantly as possible. (for a week is optimal, this was easy for me as I took
him to work) and watch him, when he's ready to go get him to the pad and praise
the heck out of him when he does go. It really works, but again you need the
luxury of continuous commited time.

Subject: [Chihuahuas] For a "Housebroken" 2YR old MALE CHI- Are accidents at
home ever "normal"

I have posted about trying to p-pad train my 2 year old chi. I have only had
him for 6 months
and have now decided to keep the pads on the floor, but not actively train for
their use now (
I won't go into why for now). When I got him they said that they weren't sure
if he was
housebroken, this is my first dog and I didn't really know the best way to
housebreak him. I
wasn't employed at the time so we went out quite freqently for walks etc (every
6hours of so
at least). I now take him out every 8 hours.
My question is this TO THE OWNERS OF MALE DOGS, WHAT FREQUENCY OF ACCIDENTS
(PEE
ONLY) IN THE HOUSE, IS "NORMAL." My guy has been having one accidnet a month
and I've
recently begun confining him again (to a gated kitchen not his crate) when I
can't watch him
or when I'm not home) in an effort to retrain him to go outside....but after
talking to some
male dog owners at the park, they say their dogs have accidents about 1 time a
month as
well, and consider their dogs housebroken.
I'd like to add that I LIVE IN A CITY, WITHOUT A BACKYARD OR DOGGYDOOR, so it
is easiet
for me to keep a regular schedule and take my dog out every 6-8 hours...
Is my dog houesbroken? When a dog is, do they NEVER have accidents or do they
occur,but
more like 1-2 a year....?
Thanks, as I'm clearly not sure what normal is...
