I hope all is well with your baby but I cannot help but asking why she is
having a second litter. Perhaps my question is completely ignorant and you all
know good reasons to keep breeding a dog. Forgive me if thats the case.

Subject: [Chihuahuas] Preggo Chi question

My two year old LH Chi is a few days away from delivery. This will
be her second litter. The first time she had a c-section. I'm not
sure if it was really necessary because I might have jumped the gun
and taken her in too soon. She had been contracting for a few hours
and then had a clear water sack hanging out. (no puppy to be seen)
I get such varying information. The vet I took her to said that it
was the amniotic sack and I should have broken it and allowed the
puppy to come out, but a lot of breeders info says that it wasn't the
amnio sack and if I would have broken it it would have made birth
even harder.

I just don't know what to do this time. C-section is so expensive,
but I'm willing to pay for it if it's what she needs. Should I wait
longer this time? If I see that water sack should I give her a
couple of hours before I take her in? It seemed last time she didn't
understand what was going on. She didn't do the normal nesting
behaviour.

I don't want her cut open if she can do it on her own, but I also
don't want to put her or the pups in any danger.

Now for a weird question. Is it normal for a pregnant dog's breath
to stink horribly? Last time she was pregnant it stunk, and this
time before I even know she was pregnant it started to stink again.
It stinks all the way through the pregnancy and then when she
delivered her breath went back to normal. I can't find any
information on this anywhere, but the bad breath was actually how I
realized she was pregnant. It smells like something died in her
mouth. Anyone else have this happen?

Thanks for any advice!
