I've read about plenty of people that remove the dewclaws to newborn pups. They say the pup doesn't even bleed and that it's no big deal. Personally, I'm glad Daisy doesn't have hers... she runs around the house like a mad doggie and I could totally see a dewclaw getting caught in the carpet.
