Not everything is a law suit. If everyone took everything to court, the courts would be bogged down with so much that the major things would not get the attention they need. The person that had the dew claw incident needs to talk to the vet about how to "make things right". First, they definitely should not have paid for anything, second, the vet should be supplying FREE pain meds, ect to take care of the unnecessary pain the chi suffered. Yes, they should do something to make it right, but a law suit is not always the answer. If the vet refuses to cooperate at all, then the issue should be addressed with the local licensing board for discipline and/or compensation. It is for the licensing board, not the courts.
I had an experience a year ago where I took my pet lamb to be neutered. Now, I live in the country where farmers do this type of stuff on livestock themselves, but this little lamb was a pet...a bottle baby....it got the best of everything and followed me around as faithfully as any dog ever would. I LOVED that lamb! I wanted the neutering to be as painless as possible, so I took it to a vet that specialized in farm animals. When I went to pick him up that afternoon, I was presented with a dead lamb!! The vet gave anesthesia. Any vet should know that a lamb or sheep can NOT tolerate anesthesia...it will kill them! This vet should have known that!! And it really bothered me that they did not even bother to call and tell me or anything...they waited until I showed up to pick him up. And this was all after my telling them at drop off that this was not just a farm animal but a very loved pet and I expected the best of care ect. I stressed that is was a PET! I was too devastated to do anything at the time. In hind sight, I do wish I had filed a complaint with the licensing board. BUT, it was not something for the courts, that much I know. As a family court lawyer, I see way to often how custody issues get put on the back burner due to the court system having too many cases and too little time. When I pointed out the back dewclaw to the technician they took him back and quickly removed that as it was tiny. It required no anesthesia. My concern is Teddy cannot stand. He keeps his front left paw off the ground. It has been 10 hours since his surgery and he hasn't urinated since we brought him home as he cannot stand. I took him back to the vet as soon as I realized he couldn't stand and she said he was just a tender soul and preferred to be held than to stand on his paw when it hurt. I am very worried that there was some kind of damage to his foot. Have the rest of you had experience with dew claw removal? He is very sleepy still and we did get him to eat a little dinner but other than that he has been sleeping since we brought him home 6 hours ago. Am I panicking for no reason?
