Personally, I can't ever recall a period in my life when I have not had dogs. I remember dogs being around even when I was in diapers. Well, maybe it is just the pictures and not actually memories, lol. Anyway, my life would be incomplete without my pets.
As far as what will happen to them when you are gone or can no longer care for them....that is something you simply plan for and hope for the best. It is no different from having human kids.....who will care for them if something happened to you??? That is why you do guardianship papers ect. You can actually leave a pet to a specific person. And if you don't know any dog people yet, then you are on the right path to getting to know them!! Start socializing and meeting other dog lovers. You will find you have a lot in common! And could make a friend that you could entrust your furbabies to in the event you couldn't care for them. As for me......I think it will be easier finding guardians for my dogs than it will be for my teenage children!! lol Marsha ----- Original Message ----- From: maaike_dirkx To: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, February 07, 2007 11:27 AM Subject: [Chihuahuas] New member but not a Chi owner yet Hi My name is Maaike and I live in Amsterdam. I used to have dogs in the past when I wasn't working, but that is now a long time ago. However, I do miss a dog in my life. If I were a cat person, it would be easy (I live alone and I work 4 days per week and cats are happy to spend time alone), but alas I am not a cat person! I've done some reading and research and I believe that a Chihuahua is the dog for me, character- wise and also because of my cramped apartment etc. However, I worry about taking on the responsibility: suppose I get ill and couldn't look after the animal. None of my current friends have pets or if they do, they own cats. (Can you tell I socialise with the wrong crowd?!) Could anyone of you tell me if they have had the same problems and if they managed to find a solution and if so, which one(s)? Many thanks! Maaike
