The problem with doing the tax exempt charities type rescue is that it leads to the too stringent rules. I am more interested in helping those that are ready to be PTS at any moment, that the 501 rescues don't get to. I would not be interested in doing the rescues from the rescue groups...those dogs are already fine...they will keep them as long as needed.....I am more interested in the emergency cases that I see so much of. The 501 rescues all have large adoption fees that are a result of the time and money they have put into a dog. For instance, they rescue then they have the expense of all the vetting, the home visits, ect. I am more interested in something like....ok this chi will be PTS tomorrow in OH,,,there is someone in TN that will take it....it don't have time for home visits, ect....so lets get the dog out and get it to the person in TN asap. That person can take the chi to their own vet for vetting...the idea is that the dog has been saved. and the only money the TN person has to put out is whatever it cost to get the dog pulled.......I have seen people turned down for a rescue because they have never owned a dog before. To me, that is ridiculous that a dog can die when someone wants to love it just because they have not had a dog before. We allow first time parents to have children don't we??? We got to start somewhere! Anyways, like I said, I will start a group to discuss the details and we can see what we can come up with....I will work on that this evening....... Hi Marsha, You might remember that I have been with United Yorkie rescue for the past 5 years. I got both of my females from them. Since my husband and I decided to travel in our RV for the next 18 months,(6 of them over with) I felt I couldn't keep up with my responsibilities and resigned from the group. Most rescue groups become 501c3's. This allows them to go into pounds and pull the dogs for free. Most pounds will not release a dog unless they feel the dog is unadoptable, ie a biter, ill, etc. They prefer to get the adoption $$ for themselves. The rescue groups that I'm familiar with do not want to participate in puppy auctions because they feel it puts the $$ back in the millers hands and keeps them in business. They would prefer to put them out of business with no $$ rewards. In UYR they had people that pulled dogs from pounds. (I pulled 6 yorkies and yorkie mixes from my local pound 1 year.) They have people that set up the web site. (You can do this via Petfinders)They had people that crafted - which is why you need your own web site or someone familiar with ebay to auction off the crafts to make $$ to pay vet bills. (I knitted dog sweaters, blankets, sewed beds, jackets, carry bags etc). You need people to do computer work (I processed all the applications for Al, GA and FL). You need foster homes, people to do vet checks and home visits. You need vets that are willing to donate or reduce fee visits, neuters etc. You need people willing to donate $$ to the people that craft... I could go on an on and on...But I'll get off my soapbox (lol) Beth Ft Lauderdale, but on the road --- In [email protected], "westelmtable" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > it should not matter if you are a breeder. the dogs are in need of > homes. i have heard that teens are obtaining dogs. chis in particular > becacause celebs have them and parade the dogs. the teens grow tired of > the dogs and then they go to animal rescue.lets hear > more of your plan. i am interested in helping. and would love to have > another chi. they are so small. they need all the help they can get to > find a good home.
