We adopted Sara in November from an animal shelter. She was four months old. She is mostly Chihuahua with some terrier or something mixed in, but she looks Chihuahua and has most of the Chihuahua behaviors and characteristics. I have some questions though. Why does she burrow under the covers when she sleeps in my bed? I worry she cannot breathe. She also wheezes instead of sneezing it seems. Also, her breath is horrendous. We have tried puppy mints, teeth brushing, etc. Any suggestions? They looked at her teeth and all when we got her from the shelter. She was examined, fixed and given her rabies shots there.
She is an inside/outside dog. We live in a warm climate and she is able to stay in our fenced yard while we go to work. We also have a shed with a doggie door for her on cooler days. In the evenings and on weekends, she is inside with us, and rides with us in the car on short outings frequently. We all love Sara to pieces! She has become one of our family. She did fairly well with house training. We haven't had an accident in well over 2 months. She is good about going to the door to let us know when she wants to go out. We did one stupid thing though, that I want to caution others about. My husband used Easy Off Grill Cleaner to scrub and clean our grill. He took the hose and rinsed off the blackened pieces that had cooked onto it. He thought he had hosed down the patio well, but unfortunately did not. Sara smelled the grease from those burned bits and licked many up. About 4:00 am the next morning, she threw up all over our bed, ruining our sheets. It was those blackened bits from the grill and smelled of that Easy Off. I griped at my husband, and he went and rinsed off the patio again. We are lucky it didn't really hurt or kill her.
