I think they understand a lot more than we give them credit for, lol. Shame we gotta spell certain words so the chis don't know what we are saying!!! lol
As for one dog training another to do something through imitation....that is actually how my SD Pepper was trained. He learned by imitating my old SD. And my chi puppy Cayenne...I decided to train her to a potty pad instead of going outside like the others do because I was too lazy to go out in the cold this winter (lol), but she has recently started following the bigger chis out on her own and doing her business!! I am proud of her. They do learn by imitation! I don't have to hold out the dog jerkie now, she will come whenever I say come, but I almost always give her a piece of dog jerkie anyway. I am a firm believer in the 1 word command with a treat for incentive to comply. Although, I sometimes think Minnie understands my every word.....LOL. When I ask her if she's hungry her ears pop up even straighter, if that's possible, LOL.....and I say, "where u supposed to be?" and she jumps right into her bed in her crate and stays there till I get her food ready. I feed her in her crate to avoid any fights over food. The new girl, Penny is picking up the same things real quick, because she imitates Minnie. I love the way Melanie has her little furbaby trained to "park".....that is so cool, I think I will try it too, though Minnie won't fit in the palm of my hand at 8 lbs.....LOL Stefanie Brannan wrote: I have a question for all you Chi lovers. Do you have trouble with picking your Chihuahuas up? I have had Cricket only a few weeks. I got her at 5 months old and she is now almost 6 months old. I have no issues with her, so far, except when I try to pick her up, she runs away. She is very fast and it's almost impossible to pick her up. I have been trying not to chase her around to catch her but when I need to pick her up to put her in the kitchen or for any other reason, she is very skiddish about it and will not let me. I have tried just sitting there and waiting for her to come to me and that works, but takes forever. If I need to put her in her playpen because I have to leave for work, for instance, I really need to be able to get her in there quickly and not wait until it is convenient for her. I also tried calling her but she won't have it. If I am sitting down, she loves to come and sit on my lap. She loves to be held as long as I am not standing up. Besides the timidness when being picked up, she is very outgoing. I really want her to be okay with me handling her. How can I get her to trust me?
