Hi Beth- The excitment that your describing, upon your arrive home, it totally
normal for
EVERY dog. The best thing to do is when they're in this state ignore them until
they calm
down, as you said it only lasts a few minutes and then pick her up and hug her
once she's
calm. Slowly she'll begin to associate the positive (hugs) with being calm. As
for the licking
thing, i would have a yummy something for her to eat when she starts to lick
you- divert her
attention to (for example) a kong filled with peanut butter or something else
that she likes.
The she'll be distracted. When she stops licking you and starts licking her
treat say good girl
and praise her! She may also grow out of the licking, it could be a puppy
thing- if she's
young.
