I pee pad trained my Chi because I heard a lot of people say it's easier for
them than total housetraining. This way, she doesn't have to hold it for long
when I am gone. Chis are so small, it's hard for them to hold it and they tend
to never get completely housebroken. Plus, because they are so small, they can
easily go potty somewhere behind furniture or a place you cannot see. Then the
scent is there and never noticed and the dogs continues to soil in the home.
The pee pad training works great. I have two other (bigger) dogs that go potty
outside and my Chi goes on the pads. I free feed all three of them so they
don't have a feeding schedule.

I have 2 male (neutered) chi's who are on a loose schedule. I take
them for a walk every night when I get home from work and I keep their
food in the kitchen all day/night. Despite the walks, they go to the
bathroom at various times in my house. I'm trying to prevent this. I'm
assuming I need to leave their food/water out at certain times in
accordance witht their walks. Does anyone have a strict schedule they
adhere to when potty training their dogs?
