I guess to each his own. I personally would never dream of doing this before 6 months of age...and if there were undecended testicles, I would wait up to a year to see if they dropped first....if, by a year, they still hadn't, they probably wont, and I would go ahead....but I would give it a chance first, and wouldn't neuter before 6 months even if they were "well developed". But that is just me.
I did have a pup in Ginger's last litter that by 7 weeks old had all his parts!! I was so surprised. Even the vet couldn't believe he had dropped at such an early age, lol.......I guess I have just been lucky to have such proud boys in my life, lol....now all I need is a human one!!! lmbo!! I frequent many pet forums, and was absolutely appaled the other day! I was asking for their thoughts on micro chipping, as I have Patches, and 8 other dogs (2 big, and their 6 puppies). Well, they started on me about neutering...the daddy has been, but i obviously can't have the mother done until after nursing is over. Well, someone tells me that I can (and SHOULD) neuter these puppys, who both parents were around 45-55 lbs at 1 year, as soon as they reach 2 lbs. SMH. I just thought this was kind of funny, and wanted to share. Most pups that have undecended testicles, the vet will advise to wait till the pup is a year old to see if they will drop first, since that is a much simpler procedure. I have never heard of a vet doing this procedure at such an early age. > Marsha > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Thursday, April 12, 2007 9:48 AM > Subject: Re: [Chihuahuas] Re: ? on neutering > > > > It was written: > "When I nuetered my little Roman he was about 12 weeks old and he had yet to drop." > > I was wondering about this type of extremely early neutering. From everything I've heard and read this is VERY early. An animal has not fully developed neither personality-wise nor physically. Aren't some of those hormones he'll now be without necessary for proper development? > I bring this up as I know there are many (like myself) newbie owners on this forum and this seemed a noteworthy topic. I have also read their little sacks MUST drop. Thanks as always for all your kind input. This is in no way meant to differ with that owner's philosophy, only to ask for other opinions. > Thanks! > > best, > michelle and henry > in the beautiful Catskill Mountains, NY > > > > > > > ---------------------------------------------------------- ----------- > AOL now offers free email to everyone.
